Have you ever wondered where the line is drawn between helpful modern technology and genuine human relationships?

I recently read a thoughtful article by Debbie Krider, Ed.D. in Florida Weekly titled "Is your partner having an affair with AI?". Full credit to Debbie Krider for sparking this conversation. Her piece made me stop and think about how easily people can blur the line between support and substitution, especially here in Southwest Florida, from Sarasota County to Charlotte County and North Port.

After 20 years in healthcare admin, I learned that a computer can follow a process, but it can never replace the human empathy required when someone is signing life-changing documents.

That lesson stayed with me long before AI became everybody's favorite topic. I spent 12 years scheduling surgeries and 8 years working at a dialysis center, and those years taught me that people do not just need answers. They need patience, calm, and someone who understands the weight of the moment.

That is why my view is simple. AI works best as an assistant, not a replacement. It can help with scheduling, drafting, and repetitive admin work, but it should never become your best friend or stand in for real conversation.

What surprises most people is that the better technology handles the background noise, the more present we can be in real life. We can shut the laptop, have dinner, call a friend, or simply show up better for the people sitting right in front of us.

AI can support connection, but it should never replace it. That is the lesson Debbie Krider's article reinforced for me, and I think it is one worth remembering.

What admin task would you gladly hand off to AI, if it gave you more time for real life? Drop a comment and let me know.

Can technology ever replace genuine human connection?

I recently read an article by Debbie Krider, Ed.D. in Florida Weekly titled "Is your partner having an affair with AI?", and it really stuck with me. Full credit to Debbie Krider for raising a question more people need to ask.

After 20 years in healthcare admin, I learned that a computer can follow a process, but it can never replace the human empathy required when someone is signing life-changing documents. With 12 years scheduling surgeries and 8 years at a dialysis center, I have seen firsthand that people need calm, compassion, and a real person in the room.

That is why I believe AI should be an assistant, not a replacement. Let it handle scheduling and repetitive admin tasks, so you can get back to family, community, and real conversation.
